Election campaign ongoing

I told you before – the campaign for this year’s parliamentary elections is well under way.

Our dearest President has already had a few headaches courtesy of the current parliament that, save a few hardliners who don’t even want actresses inside the country, is increasingly against his populist (read: senseless) economic policies.

Not that ordinary people like him, either. And even worse, he is starting to lose some brownie points with no less than the Grand Ayatollah.

But our man is not stupid. He must have noticed the noise and read a couple of papers. And it could be for this reason that he is even starting to sound liberal, and sends his people to countries as far away as Egypt to try and win some support.

Will it be enough? hard to say. Let’s remember that the parliament is made of political groups, the largest of which (the conservatives) still has its way to get votes, especially outside the main cities. However, even a victory for them may not mean an easy life for the best known Mahmoud: with the nuclear issue played down by CIA itself, President Bush well on his way to Sunset Boulevard, Tehran mayor Qalibaf continuing his not-so-quiet-anymore electoral campaign in sight of the 2009 presidential elections, and an increasing number of opponents even in his own ranks, he may end up being marginalized in the last two years of his term. Something his ego will definitely not tolerate.

Interesting months are ahead, as always!
